Zip Your Gym Bag into Shape
At times it is hard enough to motivate yourself to get to the gym, let alone finding the time to pack a gym bag. Ideally, a gym bag should be a designated bag which is large enough to carry everything you need for a comfortable workout and post workout session. To make a trip to the gym a cinch, here's what your gym bag should ideally carry:
- Fresh towels for use inside the gym as well as in the locker room. Microfiber towels work well as they stay dry to the touch, but absorb sweat and water to keep you dry and comfortable.
- Mini toiletries such as those found in hotels or your favorite brands in travel sized bottles
- Brush or comb and hair band or clips
- Make up essentials
- Deodorant
- A pair of flip flops to wear around the locker room and in the shower
- A fresh pair of underwear
If your gym bag has multiple compartments, you can use these to store your items securely. Inside zippered compartments are also a great place in which to tuck your gym membership card and locker key, along with your regular essentials such as a cell phone, car keys, and credit cards. You should also carry a spare plastic bag or specially designated shoe bag in which to keep your gym shoes and flip flops, and a separate bag for your clothes. Keep a spare set of clothes and moisture wicking socks in your bag, as you never know when you might need them.
Additionally, your gym bag should be able to house a water bottle - essential for any exercise routine - and some fuel food like granola or protein bars.
Another great tip is to laminate a work-out sheet and tuck it into your gym bag. This is a sheet with step by step instructions on the kind of equipment you will be using and the number of reps you'll be performing for each set of exercises. Print out a couple of variations so you can mix and match your routine and avoid boredom.
Because a gym bag has a tendency to get dirty and smelly, it's important that your designated bag be washable. You can also invest in odor repellent shoe sachets, or create your own by tying up baking soda in a piece of muslin cloth.
