If you have never heard of Craigslist before, you may wonder what is so great about the website.  It is a free online classified website.  Unlike eBay and traditional newspaper classifieds, it is free for sellers to post for sale items.  This makes Craiglist.org very appealing.  In fact, for sale listings have rapidly increased in frequency over the years.  Just about anything you want to buy, including cars, toys, clothes, exercise equipment, and more, you can find it on the website.

 

With hundreds or thousands of products for sale just in your local area alone, you may wonder how to find what you need.  Performing a search on the website may sound like a difficult task, but it is actually relatively easy.  In fact, continue reading on for helpful Craigslist search tips.

 

Download the free Craigslist Reader from MotionT.com.  Although the free Craigslist reader is not needed to search the website, it does make searching easier.  The classified website is designed to connect local buyers and sellers.  Each sellers post their listings to a specific city.  You must search this city to find their listing.  But wait!  What if you live in Ithaca, New York and don’t mind driving 1 hour to Syracuse, New York?  You must search each city independently, but not if you use the Craigslist Reader.

 

As previously stated, you can perform a Craigslist search without a special software program.  If you wish to do this, visit the main website.  Click on your state and then your closest city.  In the left-hand column, you will see the option to search the website.  For sale listings are automatically selected as the default search option.  Type in what you are looking for.  For the largest results on a local basis, be general in your search.  For example, search for a “used car.”  To be more specific, search for a “Ford.”

 

After performing your Craigslist search, you will get a results page.  This is a list of all for sale listings that contain your keyword.  You can browse these to find a product that fits your needs and is within your budget.  Although some sellers will mail purchases, most prefer to arrange a pickup time.
