The earliest of Rolex watches have been dated back to 1905 when the founders Hans Wilsdrof and Alfred Davis started importing Swiss movements to place them in watch cases being manufactured by Dennison and some other manufactures in London. The Rolex Oyster Perpetual Date Sea Dweller was a special watch that was manufactured in collaboration with Swiss watch maker Doxa to withstand deep sea pressure. Together they came up with an innovative helium release valve in the watch to release helium gas during decompression.

On the other hand there were watches like The Explorer and Explorer II that were created specifically for those who navigate through coarse terrain. Both the watches were a part of the highly famous Mount Everest expeditions because they would still give uninterrupted performance even in such rough weather. On request from the Pan-Am Airways, Rolex designed or custom made one of its most famous and sought after models: The Rolex GMT master. This watch was particularly made for pilots who were crossing different time zones while flying transcontinental flights.

The Rolex GMT Master is still manufactured and in 2005 it underwent a make over and is now renamed as Rolex GMT Master II (50th anniversary edition). Rolex has seen time go by and with the passage of time it has also evolved and undergone many changes. People who know how to appreciate the finer things in life will know the value of owning Rolex watches.
