Cavanaugh Flight Museum – Keeping Over a Hundred Years of Aviation Heritage Alive

Located on the outskirts of Dallas's famed Addison Airport, the Cavanaugh Flight Museum is a must-see for any aspiring pilot or aviation enthusiast. The museum is named after its founder, Jim Cavanaugh, whose initial collection of antique planes was what spawned the gargantuan present-day collection encompassing a floor area of nearly 50,000 square feet.

The PT-13B is a cockpit plane most commonly used by the military in World War II, when bi-planes were becoming a fast-fading trend. The plane has a distinguished reputation as a trainer of thousands of the U.S' combat pilots. In contrast, the AT-6 Texan is a combat trainer that transcended the life-spans of the more powerful fighters such as Mustangs and Corsairs to prove its mettle well into the era of the Korean War. A thrilling hour's ride is offered on either of these planes by the museum, although advance bookings are necessary and only adults over 18 are allowed.

 

The other major draw of the museum is its matchless art gallery which showcases the aviation art from internationally-renowned artists such as John Shaw, Robert Taylor, Keith Ferris and William Phelps.
