Painter Improves Her Studio With Natural Full Spectrum Lights, Neutral Walls, and Comfy Floor Mats

I’m Coral S. Seay.  I am a painter in Scottsdale, Arizona.  I recently made some major improvements to my studio by changing the lighting to natural, full spectrum lights by Ott-Lite.  These lights enable me to see the true color of the paints and to keep the concepts of my pieces as close as possible to the images in my mind.   With the extremes in temperature and lighting here in Arizona, I use the ” truecolor” light line from Ott-Lite to keep the look and the illumination current from day to day.  After the paint dries on a canvas, I can match the colors if I have to by using these lights to illuminate the early composition.
Since I have northern sunlight most of the time in my studio, I do not have to worry about having sunlight during the day, however, I often work late into the night, and have to keep my results consistent. 
I also created a still-life setup in my studio by use of platforms, tables and angle lighting using my portable Ott-Lites.  This setup included painting the back wall a neutral white, so that I can play with the light as it bounces into the room and off the objects being rendered.
My new lighting has given me the ability to paint for much longer and to avoid eyestrain.   The lights have also helped me with my portrait work, gently intensifying the tones of the complexions of my clients, and gently illuminating their true facial coloring.
Another improvement to the studio was a cushioned floor mat.  I got the idea at my hairdresser, when I noticed that, like me, she stands all day. She drew my attention to her floor mat and to her high stress shoes.  Since I work standing most of the time, this has been a wonderful improvement for my studio.  The mat makes it possible to stand comfortably for much longer.
Between the lights used for full spectrum viewing and the floor mat, I have increased my productivity by thirty percent.  I know this because I have kept track of the number of portrait and still life commissions I have turned out this year.  Though it is not considered an artist’s job to crunch numbers, I have always believed that they do not lie, and neither does the fact that my back, knees, feet and eyes are not strained by the end of the day. 
Now that I know how much full-spectrum lights and a good floor mat can improve my studio, I wonder why I did not do this much earlier in my career.
