Xenon HID Lamps And HID Kit Versus Regular Headlamps

You may have noticed recently that more and more cars are using brighter headlamps that give off bright white light tinged with a hint of blue. These headlamps are known as High Intensity Discharge (HID) lamps, and are the next big thing in the automotive parts industry. Although the technology has been around for some time, it is only recently that more and more car manufacturers have started making new cars with such headlamps, and growing numbers of car owners are choosing to have their regular headlamps swapped out for Xenon HID lamps.

 

There are several good reasons why Xenon HID lamps are preferable to regular headlamps, thus explaining their growing popularity. The first and most major factor is the difference in brightness. Even the brightest regular headlamps are nowhere near as bright as Xenon HID headlamps. This is because HID bulbs do not make use of regular filaments to produce light, but instead make use of arc lamp technology. This allows Xenon HID bulbs to emit white light that is much brighter than that from regular halogen or incandescent bulbs.

 

Another reason that is leading many car owners to purchase a HID kit for their cars is that Xenon HID lamps use a great deal less energy than regular headlamps. The advanced technology used in HID bulbs allows light to be produced at almost half the energy cost as regular bulbs. Headlamps from a HID kit typically consume almost fifty percent less energy than that required to power regular headlights. This is a great benefit to car owners, being a much smaller drain on car batteries, and thus reducing occurrences of dead car batteries. This is especially useful if you are prone to leaving your headlamps on when you park your car, as there is a better chance that your battery will not be drained if you have installed a HID kit in your car.

 

Lifespan is another advantage that Xenon HID lamps hold over regular headlamps. Most regular headlamps are only rated for a thousand hours or so of burn time, whereas a HID kit will probably last for the entire life of your car, even if you were to keep it for many years. This is because the filaments in regular bulbs tend to degrade over time, but HID bulbs do not contain any such filaments.

 

The final advantage that a HID kit has over regular headlamps is in terms of cost. Even though the initial cost of purchasing a HID kit is no doubt greater than regular headlamps, you will find that you save money in the long run. Regular headlamps require that you change them after approximately a thousand hours of use, but you will never need to change your HID lamps once you install them. Thus you will find that you save money on replacements in the long run.
