Give Your Home an Edge With Driveway Edging

It is a well known fact that curb appeal is the first indicator that most people look for when visiting a house, buying a house or even just passing a house. People get ideas that they can then use in their own homes simply by watching what others do. Although landscaping and paint/trim/windows are what most people first look for, the driveway edging which is used in many well groomed homes often will speak more to the overall upkeep and care of the home. To truly finish the look of any home, this particular landscaping item can give you much more than you might think.

All types of yard trimming and edging is available. You can get as sophisticated as poured cement which you would then mold into a bona fide curb or a natural looking rock edging. In some cases, the edging is formed a bit wider so that it resembles a river bed. Another type of driveway finish is the "Fence" look. This uses many pieces of wood, usually wired together, in the shape of fence poles. They are cut down to 6 to 12 inches and then staked down into the ground. All of these are very popular ways to finish off your driveway.

In addition, lighting is used as edging quite often. Different styles of lights are used to outline the driveway. Solar, electric and battery operated lights can and are used to light the way from the street to the top of the driveway. Additionally, lights are often combined with one of the other types of edging to give it an even more complete look. If you prefer it to look simple, you will opt for one; if you want it to look a bit glitzy, you should try to combine a few together for the look you want.

It is very obvious how much driveway edging can add to the curb appeal of your home. In addition, the edging serves a practical purpose, it is a guide for you when you back out your vehicle and will help you stay on the concrete and off the grass or shrubbery. If you really want to match the house, you can think about painting the edging the same color as the house or the trim. Many people prefer to match the trim, deciding that matching the house color is often a bit "too much" of the same color.
