Left Turning Motorists - Make the Right Decision to Avoid Accidents
With over hundreds of millions of cars on the roads across the United States, there is bound to be an automobile collision at one point. In fact, there are a recorded 6 million car accidents that occur yearly. However, one of the most common accidents that arises out of this high number occurs when vehicle attempts to make a left turn. It is commonly recognized that a left turn is a dangerous maneuver because the left turning vehicle enters the lane of traffic for other oncoming vehicles or traffic. In fact, some experts have stated that the left turn is the most dangerous maneuver a motorist may execute.
Depending on the state, there may be various regulations, however; normally the turning motorist is required to signal his intent to make a left turn at least before reaching an intersection. In addition to giving the proper signal, the driver is required to make a proper observation that the turn could be made without endangering a passing or oncoming vehicle. Many times large trucks may make wide left turns and are unable to see the driver turning inside of him. If you have been injured in an accident as a result of another driver's negligence, you should quickly consult a car accident attorney who can help you quickly recover all of your property and monetary damages.
The left turning motorist also has the duty to yield to all vehicles approaching from the opposite direction that are within the intersection or could constitute as an immediate hazard. Some courts have gone so far as to claim that when a left-turning motorist driver sees a vehicle approaching from the rear, it is his or obligation to look a second time. If they fail to do so, they may be found at complete fault for the accident.
In a car accident case, attorney Emery Ledger states that once the evidence establishes that the turning motorist was attempting to make a left turn when the accident occurred, the burden of proof shifts to the motorist to absolve himself of liability. In other words, there is a presumption of negligence when it is proved that the driver executed a left-hand turn and crossed the center line at the time of the impact. If the left-turning motorist is faced with a green arrow left-turn signal, he must prove that he was making such a turn while the arrow was green, or that he had pre-empted the intersection.
However, the left-turning motorist's duty to yield is inapplicable where the intersection is controlled by an inoperative traffic signal. Any motorist approaching such an intersection is required to assess the situation and uphold the highest degree of safety and caution.

The Driver $10.99 On his deathbed, Alex Roy’s father reveals a secret history of the notorious Cannonball Run of the 1970s, the utterly illegal high-speed non-stop races from New York to LA that featured a field of wealthy international participants. Inspired by his father’s dying words, Roy enters the high-octane world of semi-legal road rallies and illegal underground races—trying both to find himself in a mysterious and hazardous world, and to locate “The Driver”—the anonymous organizer of the world’s ultimate illegal race, neither of which may exist. Roy must first become a force to be reckoned with. In this riveting story, Roy straps you into his highly modified BMW M5, takes you on a terrifying 120 mph lap of Manhattan, through the exhilaration of a West Coast professional racing school, then tackles the Gumball 3000 and the Bullrun—the two most infamous road rallies in the world. The official line is “It’s not a race, it’s a rally.” But among those who pay $15,000 to enter—millionaire playboys, software moguls, Arab princes, movie stars, leggy Czech supermodels, gearheads, and tech whizzes—a select few, Alex Roy among them, compete as if these are full-on honest-to-god road races. May the best driver win. By day, those secretive few ignore rally rules and the law to race each other city-to-city on public roads, all the while evading police and abiding by an odd code of honor. By night, the drivers and their entourages struggle against fatigue to attend outrageous parties with some of the world’s richest and most glamorous people. Though some drivers spend hundreds of thousands of dollars on exotic cars and useless cosmetic modifications, Roy utilizes a far greater weapon: his brain. Armed with his BMW M5 painted like a German police car, with the help of America’s most creative techs and BMW mechanics, deploying myriad radar detectors, laser jammers, police scanners, and a variety of fake uniforms and accents, Roy evades arrest at almost every turn, wreaking havoc on his fellow competitors and the police forces of the countries around the world. Full of shocking stories from some of the wildest events in existence, Drive offers a never-before-seen account of the fast, furious, unbelievable world that has long been off-limits to all but the international rich and elite. Filled with insane driving and Roy’s quixotic quest to win both for his late father and himself, Drive is the tale of one man’s insatiable drive beyond life in the fast lane. |

Turn Four $12.99 "Growing up, Chance Reynolds was the wunderkind of the Midwestern racing world. He was a sprint car champion who had quickly moved up to stock cars, which he was driving two years before he was licensed to drive on the street. And he keeps getting better. But, at a time when he's one of the hottest drivers on the Winston Cup circuit, that all changes: an off-track accident that affects his vision forces him out of the racing circuit, and for the first time he has to face a future without racing. Chance's old racing team doesn't want to lose his expertise, so they ask him if he will mentor Gage Grissom--a young driver who seems poised to move into the place on the circuit Chance occupied before his injury. Additionally, Chance begins to read Scripture as therapy for his injured eye and take independent-study courses at a local Bible college. In addition to working odd jobs for the Winston Cup Series--car chief, race-team general manager, and cable TV commentator--Chance takes over as the Winston Cup chaplain with the Speedway Christian Ministries. His life is taking new turns every day. Then the unexpected happens: medical advances raise the possibility that, with experimental surgery, Chance may be able to race again, and he decides to give it a try. After the surgery, NASCAR gives its blessing for Chance to drive again--and he does better than ever! Now Chance must choose between the "good life"--racing cars and being showered with money--or the life he created for himself when he thought he could never race again, including the ministry opportunities that go with the chaplaincy. It takes a friendship with a troubled teenager to point Chance in the right direction." |
