Chevrolet Corvair $172.06 High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles The Chevrolet Corvair was an automobile produced by the Chevrolet division of General Motors from 1959 to 1969, for the 19601969 model years. The Corvair was offered in a wide range of body styles, including fourdoor sedans, two door coupes, convertibles, and station wagons. It was also built as a compact van similar to the Volkswagen bus, with styles including a pickup, panel van, and a passenger van called the Greenbrier. The cargo floor was raised above the rear engine, and some pickups featured an unusual side loading ramp. The Corvair like the Ford Falcon, Studebaker Lark, Nash Rambler, and the Plymouth Valiant was one of the first of a new compact class. These were offered in response to the small, sporty and fuelefficient automobiles being imported from Europe by Volkswagen, Renault, and others. The Corvair stood out with engineering significantly different from other American offerings. The Corvair was part of GMs innovative Ybody ( Z Body from 1965on) line of cars, but this was by far the most unusual, due to the location and design of its engine. Corvair Performance Portfolio 1959-1969 $50.44 The Corvair was General Motors` answer to the Chrysler Valiant and the Ford Falcon. It came with a rear-mounted, air-cooled flat-six engine that turned out to be heavier than anticipated and compromised the handling. Nevertheless there were some interesting variants. The Monza Spyder could be had with high-performance engines and in 1965 there was a new, sporty model called the Corsa. The Corvair was not developed any further and ceased production at the end of the decade. Even so the car still appeals to the enthusiast and has outlived the reputation of the mid-1960s. This is a book of road tests, technical and specification data, model introductions and driver`s reports.
