Common Sense Fence Building Tips For Above Ground Pools
Fences for above ground pools are a requirement no matter where you live, so now is the best time to start thinking about yours if you don't already have one. The first thing that you're going to find out, is that a fence can be expensive if you go through a contractor.
The good news though, is that fences in general, particularly wooden fences, are relatively simple to build if you know the basics. So let's start out with the basics, which would be the posts and frame.
Get your posts and frame in right and the rest of your pool fence consists pretty much of nailing or screwing slats onto it. Screw up your posts and frame and the rest of your fence will be screwed up.
It all begins with running tight string lines from point to point, using wooden stakes that have been driven into your corner markers. Then using a black felt pen, measure and mark of your lines in equal increments no longer than 8 feet.
These marks will be where your post holes will be dug. Dig them nice and deep. (about two feet). Also each hole should have enough room for the post and around half a 50 pound sack of ready mix concrete.
Now make sure that you buy 4x4s that are long enough. You're going to need 2 feet for the hole and 7 feet or so for the post so buy 4x4s that are 10 feet long. That leaves you a foot or so margin for error on the top that you can lop off after the fence is done.
Before You Set Your Above Ground Pools Fence Posts
Make sure that your level is not out of adjustment before you use it to set your posts. You can do this by holding it upright against a wall perfectly straight up and plumb. Next scribe a pencil line. Now flip the level around and check the "plumb" line with the other side. If it shows the line to be plumb, your level is good.
