Grand Piano Lamps are specifically designed for use with grand and baby grand pianos. There are a number of things that make these lamps work so well with grand pianos. First, they have long flexible shades that can be adjusted and will cast light directly over the entire length of the sheet music. The shades are encapsulated so that the light shines only onto the music, not to other parts of the room. They have easy access on/off switches so you don't have to reach far to turn them on and off. They provide the correct amount of light to make it easy to clearly read the music. They are elegant looking and add to the beauty of your grand piano. These lamps come in three basic types, each with its own distinct advantage.

Among the 3 types of lamps for grand pianos are clip-on or clamp style lamps, which attach onto the music desk (music holder) with a felt-lined clamp so they will not scratch the piano's finish. Next there is the counter balance or balance arm lamp, which has a solid weighted base and a long arm and shade. This lamp is usually placed on the side flat section of the music desk, and the long adjustable arm reaches over to cast light directly above the sheet music.  The third type of lamp is a piano floor lamp. This lamp also has a solid base and a long arm and shade, however this lamp is placed on the floor next to the piano, and the arm is adjusted to position the long shade over the sheet music.

Each of the 3 types of lamps has its advantages.  The clip-on style lamp is convenient because the lamp is attached to the music holder and is "out of the way, making it easier to place other things on the piano such as books or a metronome. The balance arm lamp is a great choice for those who want a lamp with a weighted base. This lamp can also be transported to other areas of the home.  The piano floor lamp is a good choice if you do not want to place a lamp on top of the piano.

The three different types of Grand Piano Lamps are each available in a number of different colors and finishes including: black, polished brass, mahogany bronze, satin nickel, marble bases, chrome, and other color combinations. There are also differences among these lamps concerning the type of light they give off.  Some of them use fluorescent lighting technology, while others use energy efficient LED technology.  Halogen lamps and battery -operated lamps are also among the choices you have when choosing a grand piano lamp.
