What do the words cop car lights mean to you?

When you think of an emergency vehicle, you probably think of a cop car with lights ablaze and siren going. Lets face it cop car lights are seen every single day on our street and we get immune to them and the siren wail. The day we don't see blazing cop car lights is the day something is seriously wrong. Of course the police don't use the lights all of the time in all situations. They only use the full lights and siren when they are responding to an emergency 911 call.

It may seem like you see police cars hurtling past you on an all too regular basis, and you probably do, but their job is to respond to emergencies and that is what they are doing. Cop car lights come in various different types. You have single beacons, similar to the old strobe lights, and there are lightbars that fit on top of the vehicle across the full width. Cop car lights need to be versatile and highly visible. Any police vehicle will have a range of lighting both internally and externally. The range of lighting available for cop car lights is vast and mind-boggling.

You can get stealth cop car lights, which are hidden, for the majority of the time, why would a police vehicle need hidden lights. Mainly undercover police operations have vehicles that to all intents and purposes look like an ordinary private vehicle. However they can have hidden cop car lights in the taillight or headlight section. The only time these lights would be used is when they are about to bring down a felon or suspected felon. Only then will they warn of their presence by switching on the hidden light.

What other kinds of cop car lights are there? There are LED units that contain banks of lights which can be used in various different flash patterns to advise traffic for instance at a scene. Often cop car lights are take down lights that will inform you to pull over to the side of the road. Internal to the vehicle there are visor, dash and rear lights, which all serve particular needs. The fitting of a bright LED lightbar on the dash is to give officers the edge when they have pulled someone over. They can see you, but you cannot see the officer in the vehicle due to the brightness of the lights and the officer cannot be targeted by a weapon.

Cop car lights sound almost playful and inconsequential. But they do serve a very important purpose. Any cop car lights are fitted with one thing in mind and that is safety. Safety of our police officers is crucial to them carrying out their duties. Whilst they are in a vehicle and on our roads, they need to be seen when rushing to a 911 call. Cop car lights and siren wailing make them highly visible and advises other road users of their approach. Without the cop car lights in place, the vehicles would be vulnerable to collision and they would be ignored.
