Toyota - Changing the buying perception of hybrid models

A hybrid vehicle performs somewhat differently than a typical gas-only vehicle. A gas engine combined with a high-torque electric motor changes the driving dynamics. The Camry's hybrid technology combines a 147-horsepower, 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine with a synchronous electric motor, yielding a net 187 horsepower. Today's technology yields more horsepower than what a V-6 Camry offered just a few years ago.

The big advantage of having the hybrid is that the vehicle can operate on just the electric motor at low speeds, a neat feature in stop-and-go traffic, driving through parking lots and in the neighborhood. This saves valuable energy in low speed driving situations, but once you need the extra power, the instantaneous torque from the electric motor gives an instant boost to acceleration from the gasoline engine.

When the hybrid is first started, it is hard to tell if the car is running. When the push-button starter is pressed, the gas engine doesn't always start. Even when you press the accelerator, the gas engine does not immediately fire, so it's hard to detect its slight hum and vibration. But with the introduction of the Camry Hybrid for the latest model, Toyota has changed the buying public's perception of what a hybrid needs to be.

The 2011 Camry Hybrid takes the hybrid technology to a new level with its Toyota Camry solara parts. If you take the hybrid part out of the equation, and just judge the vehicle on its merits as a mid-size sedan, it would score well. Today a wide range of models runs from the well-equipped base Camry to the near-luxury Camry XLE. In between is the popular Camry LE with the V-6, the SE with suspension, tires and sport trim, and the Hybrid offering exceptional.

As Camry is not a pure luxury sedan but it has an interior that is on the upper end for mid-priced, mid-size sedans. Up front, the upgraded leather heated seats and wood-grain-style interior trim feels expensive even though the leather isn't quite kid glove. The cabin is trimmed with a brushed metallic finish in the Camry hybrid. The Camry is a roomy sedan, front and rear, with comfortable seats and it's easy to find the right driving adjustment with power seats and a tilt/telescoping steering wheel.
